MSc on critically endangered salamanders

Congratulations to Adam Bland, Lead Herpetology Keeper at Chester Zoo, who has been awarded his masters degree, in which he worked on a critically endangered species of Mexican salamander under the supervision of Prof Richard Preziosi and Dr Gerardo García. Talking about his research, Adam said: "In order to conserve species we need to be able to keep track of individual animals. While there are very well developed methods to tag individual mammals and birds, there are few methods developed for reptiles and amphibians. My MSc research examined new methods of tagging critically endangered Lake Patzcuaro salamanders to identify the best methods for conservation monitoring of both larvae and adults." You can read more about the efforts to save the Lake Patzcuaro salamander on Chester Zoo's website here, or watch BBC coverage about the project here.
